  • Biography

Elected to the California State Assembly in November 2006, Assemblyman Sandré Swanson represents the 16th Assembly District. The district includes the cities of Alameda, Oakland and Piedmont.

Education and the health and safety of California’s children are Assemblyman Swanson’s top priorities in the California State Assembly. Assemblyman Swanson believes in keeping our promise to build strong communities and create sustainable jobs for our children.

Assemblyman Swanson started the Worker to Business Owner Project for former military base workers who lost their jobs due to base closures in our county. The project trained former base workers to become business owners and provided them technical assistance. Many of these businesses now employ hundreds of workers. He also is the founder and current Chairman of the East Bay Conversion and Reinvestment Commission’s Small Business Revolving Loan Fund.

Assemblyman Swanson lives in Alameda with his wife and is surrounded by his four children and four grandchildren.
