  • Biography

Assemblymember Jim Silva is a life long resident of Orange County and was elected to the California State Legislature in 2006. The 67th district includes the cities of Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Cypress, La Palma and Los Alamitos. It also includes portions of Stanton, Westminster, Garden Grove and Anaheim along with unincorporated areas of Rossmoor and Sunset Beach.

Assemblymember Silva currently is the Vice Chairman of the Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy Committee.

Previously, Assemblymember Silva was a three term Member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Mayor of Huntington Beach, Councilman for the City of Huntington Beach and a high school economics teacher for twenty-eight years. In addition, Assemblymember Silva is also a Licensed Real Estate Broker.

As Mayor of Huntington Beach in 1992, Assemblymember Silva oversaw the rebuilding of the famous Huntington Beach Pier that was destroyed in a series of Pacific Ocean winter storms. The pier was rebuilt on time and under budget during Silva’s tenure as Mayor. While serving on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Silva demonstrated the same fiscal conservative philosophy during the 1994 Orange County bankruptcy; by paying off high yielding bonds and restructuring the debt, taxpayers saved over $512,000,000.

Assemblymember Silva and his wife, Connie, a special education teacher of the visually impaired live in Huntington Beach. Their two children, Chad and Donna, attended Marina High School and the United States Air Force Academy. Major Chad Silva is an F-16 pilot stationed in Tucson, Arizona with his wife Andrea. Donna, a former Captain in the Air Force, resides with her husband, Captain Ethan Waitte, an F-22 pilot in Virginia.

Assemblymember Silva received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from California State University San Jose and his Master’s Degree in Education from Chapman University.
