Welcome

Welcome to the California Asian Pacific Islander (API) Legislative Caucus website!
Now in our seventh year, the API Caucus is proud to represent the diverse API communities from around the State.  In 2008, API representation in the Legislature reached a historic high of ten Members with the special election of Warren Furutani.

In recent decades, California has undergone a tremendous demographic shift, with APIs considered among the fastest growing racial and ethnic groups in the state.  The community currently makes up over 14% of the state-wide population and one-third of the nation’s API population.

This mission of the API Caucus is to represent and advocate for the interests of the API community, including increasing API representation and participation in all levels of government.

The API Caucus is comprised of the seven API Democratic Members of the Legislature.  An API Joint Legislative Caucus also exists to allow API Democratic and Republican Members to work jointly on common issues facing the API community.

We hope you will come to rely on this website as a resource in understanding and connecting with the policy-making process in your State Capitol. Please contact us with your thoughts and suggestions.

Sincerely,
Ted Lieu, 53rd Assembly District
Chair, Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus
