Welcome Video
80th Assembly District:
Our district is home to some of California’s most spectacular natural resources. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park’s canyons, rock formations and prehistoric fossils offer visitors incredible places that are impossible to replicate anywhere else. In the spring, the park’s flowers and waterfalls never fail to inspire awe. The 80th Assembly District also features one of the largest sand dunes in the United States. Imperial Sand Dunes, better known as Glamis, draws off-highway vehicle enthusiasts from all over the state. They come to experience some of the best riding, and scenery of rare plants and animals, found anywhere.

Driving With Your Cell Phone

Driving With Your Cell Phone

As most of you have heard as a result of SB 1613 being passed into law, if you want to use your cell phone while driving in California you must use it hands free. Just because you are using your phone hands free doesn’t ensure that you won’t get into an accident. Below are some addition tips from AAA that can further reduce your risk of getting into an accident while driving and using your cell phone.

  • Familiarize yourself with the features of your cell phone before you get behind the wheel.
  • Use the cell phone only when absolutely necessary. Limit casual conversations to times when you're not trying to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Plan your conversation in advance, and keep it short - especially in hazardous conditions such as bad weather or heavy traffic.
  • Let the person you're speaking with know you are in a vehicle.
  • Do not engage in emotional conversations while trying to drive. Pull off the road to a safe spot before continuing this type of conversation.
  • Do not combine distracting activities such as talking on your cell phone while driving, eating and tending to a child.
  • Use message-taking functions and return calls when you are stopped at a safe location.
  • Ask a passenger in the car to place the call for you and, if possible, speak in your place.
  • Secure your phone in the car so that it doesn't become a projectile in a crash.
