Special Services Department
Special Services Staff:
The Special Services Staff: They assist the Members and distribute materials during session and
committee hearings. They provide vehicle transportation to and from the airports and Legislative events. They also
serve as emergency responders for the Capitol Building Evacuation Plan (CBEP). The Special Services personnel are
required to successfully complete the Driver Awareness Training, which conducted at the California Highway Patrol (CHP)
Academy. Special Services employees must also successfully complete a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First
Aid course.
X-ray Facilities: To ensure that materials entering the State Capitol are safe, Special Services
personnel staff two x-ray inspection facilities. The first facility is located at the California Highway Patrol Academy.
It is used to inspect all material, delivered by the United States Postal Service, United Parcel Service, Federal Express,
etc. bound for the Capitol. The second facility is located in the Capitol basement and is used to inspect all food,
furniture, and hand deliveries.
Dispatch: Serves as the department's information center. The dispatcher arranges member transportation
to and from airports, and any other Legislative event. The dispatcher also relays messages between members and their staff,
and ensures that all assignments are completed and logged as assigned. The membership relies on the services of this
department seven days a week, including evenings and holidays.
